Call from Anders Borg comes as motor dealership, Williams Liverpool BMW renews its sponsorship of the annual event
Merseyside businesses are being urged to keep up their support of the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
Tournament organiser Anders Borg issued his now annual appeal for support as motor dealership, Williams Liverpool BMW announced it was renewing its sponsorship of the event in June for the third year running.
This year is the 14th year of the tournament, which in 2014 switched to its new home at Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth.
From 2002 to 2013 it was held in Calderstones Park and over the years has been graced by tennis legends including John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Marion Bartoli, David Ferrer and Greg Rusedski as well as many of the sport’s up and coming stars.
For the first few years the tournament enjoyed significant backing from the city council. However, while the city is still supportive of the event, public sector cuts has meant the company behind the event, North Vision, has had to secure more backing from the private sector.
Northern Vision director, Mr Borg, told ECHO Business that continued and increased support was vital to secure its future.
“We think its fantastic that local established successful brands such as Williams BMW is supporting us and bridging the gap created by the public sector cuts,” he said.
“This the largest and longest running tennis exhibition in Europe and we can offer companies the chance to be part of a great PR and awareness campaign in addition to networking opportunities in one of largest corporate areas in the North West.
“They can also be part of an extensive CSR programme, engaging with the local community to keep the kids on court as opposed to in court.
“The support we have had from city region businesses over the past few years has been fantastic. I would urge other companies to see the benefits of the event to the regional economy and offer their support to make it an even bigger success.”
Williams Liverpool BMW will provide luxury transport for the renowned tennis players taking part in the tournament and it will showcase a number of its latest models.
David McGoldrick, head of business at Williams Liverpool BMW, said: “We are always keen to get involved with key sports events taking place in Liverpool and we believe it is important to support sporting talent at all levels.”
