The Liverpool-based BMW dealership, Williams, have just signed up as the latest sponsor of The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2012.
The tournament, which takes place at Calderstones Park between 21- 24 June, is now in its eleventh year and has recently played host to many of the great tennis legends such as John McEnroe , Bjørn Borg , Martina Navratilova, Greg Rusedski, Martina Hingis, in addition to current superstars such as Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki. This year the tournament will be spread over six days, comprising two days for youngsters on June 19-20, followed by the four day main tournament event, which organisers hope will attract 20,000 spectators as the event provides a unique opportunity to watch ATP and WTA players warming up for Wimbledon and the London 2012 Olympic Games.
David McGoldrick from Williams BMW said: “We’re very excited to be partnering up with The Liverpool Tennis Tournament 2012 this year. As well as lots of entertaining on-court action, the tournament also represents an outstanding opportunity for us to be able to show cases a number of exciting new models in the BMW range whilst enjoying high quality corporate hospitality with guests, and to be able to showcase Liverpool as its very best.”
An inevitable consequence of recent cuts imposed on local authorities means that Liverpool City Council’s financial input to this year’s event will be less, so tournament organisers have been looking to the private sector to help them in terms of bridging the gap.
Tournament Director, Anders Borg said: “We are delighted to welcome BMW Williams on board as sponsors this year, as they are such a well regarded brand.
“Each year the tournament presents an opportunity to showcase Liverpool on a global scale through international media coverage of the event and the Olympic countdown is creating a huge increase of interest in sports right across the board, and we expect to really benefit from the extra exposure that this will bring.”
